At Mathilde, every handbag is a labor of love — crafted with precision, care, and a passion for excellence.

Our team may be small, but it’s this intimate size that allows us to control every step of the process, ensuring that each piece that leaves our workshop is a true testament to quality and artistry. From the selection of materials to the final stitch, every Mathilde handbag is carefully crafted by artisans who pour their hearts into their work. For us, creating a handbag isn’t just about design — it’s about telling a story through every detail.

Meet Our Artisans

The Heart of Mathilde

Kenneth

A self-taught leather craftsman, has been honing his craft for over a decade, bringing his sharp eye for detail and dedication to precision into every creation. His passion for leathercraft grew from a hobby into a career where he found joy in the process as much as in the final product. For Kenneth, each stitch tells a story of dedication to excellence and craftsmanship.

Fauzi

Whose background as an award-winning photographer brings a fresh perspective to leathercraft, is the mastermind behind our marquetry designs. His ability to merge art with function is what sets Mathilde apart. Fauzi’s passion lies in blending the traditional with the modern, turning each handbag into a canvas for creative expression.

Alongside Kenneth and Fauzi is a small but exceptionally talented team of artisans who share the same passion for leatherwork. Their work isn’t driven by machines or mass production—it’s driven by skill, care, and the belief that quality should never be compromised.

Master Pattern Maker

Harry He

Harry has been in the leather industry for almost 40 years, and heads Mathilde’s pattern making team. He first started as stitching specialist for a studio supplying a number of French / Italian companies. He slowly progressed to become an independent bag maker for high fashion brands, and now he finally found his home as our current head of patterns. At Mathilde, Harry is in charge of translating sketches to technical patterns which serves as the DNA for every bag.

His immense experience is paired with his incredible love for leather, and in his lifetime, has made more than 3000 high quality bags.

His greatest desire, is to pass on the skill of handcrafting leather bags from generation to generation.

Bag Maker

Joseph Wong

A wizard at billiards. Joseph’s dexterity with his hands helps him to excel at both the billiard table and with leather craft. His foray into the craft started by making small leather gifts for friends, which eventually expanded into bags.

Inevitably, his skills were eventually recognised and he began plying his trade for brands like Goldlion & Braun Buffel.

22 years in the industry later, Joseph now proudly makes bags for Mathilde.

Machine Specialist

Christopher Liang

Hailing from Guangzhou, Christopher is our machine specialist. He is also the quietest man in the workshop, and is intrigued by all things mechanical.

Christopher has 20 years of experience in bag making and an immense asset to the team with his technical knowledge of using equipment to enhance the quality and consistency of every bag.

As a small team, we take pride in our ability to control the quality of every single piece we produce. We don’t believe in shortcuts or rushing the process. Instead, each bag is carefully constructed, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of craftsmanship before it reaches our customers. This commitment to quality means that every Mathilde handbag is a reflection of the passion and skill of the artisans who made it.
